Generating Traffic From Twitter Trends Part 2

Last week I introduced you to the concept of using Twitter Trends to generate traffic to your website, if you missed it read it here. Today I want to teach you how to turn untargeted Twitter trend traffic into subscribers, customers or believers in your product.

The example I talked about in last week’s post was the iSnack 2.0 controversy that raced around Australia when Kraft announced the name. During this controversy I wrote two posts, those two posts were some of the highest traffic posts I have ever had on my site.

The first post I wrote was an emotional plea to Aussies to stop bagging the new name and support the Aussie icon, Vegemite.  This post received a lot of traffic as once we posted it to Twitter it hit the trending word “iSnack” and generated significant traffic.

The second post I wrote was about how the power of social media influenced a brand into changing the name of it’s product.  I talked about the debate around the iSnack and specifically how Facebook and Twitter impacted that debate.  So essentially what I did was take a news worthy topic and relate to my niche.

Now, this second post was also highly visited but unlike the first post I wrote it actually generated sign ups to my newsletter.  The reason for this was that I took an authoritative stance in article and provide expert commentary on a news worthy topic.

So if you are wanting to generate traffic to your site using Twitter Trends and then turn that traffic into potential customers.  It’s important to relate the trend to your industry in a newsworthy way.
