There are many different ways of using Twitter to generate traffic to your website or affiliate products. Over the coming weeks we will be teaching you a few of these and today we are going to start with Generating Traffic From Twitter Trends.
What Is A Twitter Trend?
A Twitter trend is a keyword or hashtag that is being repeatedly used by different users on Twitter. The repeated use of the word or hashtag results in it becoming a trend. For example, when Michael Jackson died his name was trending on Twitter because so many people were passing on their best wishes.
How Do Trends Generate Traffic?
Trends generate traffic as many people not only do updates on Twitter with trending keywords but they also watch the trend. This means that you can not only your followers but other Twitter users reading your updates and clicking on your link.
A Trend Example…

Twitter Trends
You will remember the controversy in the media a few months (or is it weeks) ago about the iSnack 2.0 release. If you don’t, basically Kraft brought out a new vegemite and called it iSnack 2.0. People in Australia did not like this at all, in fact for the few days after it’s launch iSnack and Kraft were trending topics on Twitter.
During the debate that was raging about this new product I decided to write a post called “Why Australian’s Suck And iSnack 2.0 Rocks”. Yes I know it’s a controversial headline, but they key in the headline was the word “iSnack”. As when we sent out a Twitter update with our headline and a link to the article we literally got bombarded with traffic.
Now, how can you apply this to your business?
Watch out next week as I have an article on how we did a follow up post using the same strategy to turn searches into qualified customers.

Nothing sells like controversy
Nothing clarifies your views/assumptions like an intellectual challenge – like someone making a statement about an innate view that you hold to be true, or an article about something that is current (e.g. trending).
