Setting Up Your Personal Facebook Profile

Facebook is the most visited Social Interaction Site and as such we are going to focus the next few days on setting up a profile on Facebook and using that profile to send traffic to your website.

Before we do that though I thought it would be a good idea to show you how our website traffic matrix looks. I mentioned in earlier posts that there are 3 major forms of traffic generation, and they are:

  • Search Engine’s
  • Social Media
  • Referrals

A lot of new internet business owners, make the mistake of relying significantly on search engine’s for traffic which results in their business not succeeding. So when it comes to generating traffic this is the percentage of traffic from each area I expect:

Setting Up A Facebook Profile

When setting up a Facebook Profile it’s important to create the time and space to do it properly, a lot of people just create a username and password and don’t go through and set up the profile. Facebook applications and other Facebook users will decide whether to interact with you based on your profile. The key to a successful Facebook Profile is interaction, so knowing this means putting time and effort into setting your profile up properly.

Key Elements Of A Facebook Profile

1. Profile PhotoSocial networking sites are very much living breathing organisms that have unwritten “Social Rules”. For example when you go out on a date it is customary for the male to open the door for a female. One of the “Social Rules” that most social networking sites have is:

If You Don’t Have A Profile Photo We Won’t Add You As A Friend

With the profile photo that you use it should be consistent across all social networks so you can build a consistent Social Brand. (I’ll talk more about why this is important in a later post) The photo also should include you, preferably not a photo of a car or house, so they can see the person behind the profile.

2. Profile Information – Social networking sites have standard spaces for you to write about yourself. On Facebook there is more space for telling people about you then other sites such as Twitter. The more you put into your profile information the more likely someone is to interact with your profile. It will also attract more qualified and targeted people to your Facebook Profile.

3. Photo Gallery – Social networking sites allow you to upload photos into a gallery. Another one of the “Social Rules” with sites like Facebook is:

The More Photos You Have, The More Likely I Am To Trust And Therefore Buy From You

    Hey Donna,

You would be best setting up a Fan Page for your new internet business. Mainly because with fan pages you can have an unlimited number of fans/friends, but with a normal profile your maximum is 5k fans/friends.

    Matt :)
